What this site collects

Nothing, by default

There are no accounts, no sign-up forms, no newsletter and no comments on this site. We do not use analytics or advertising tools, and we do not set cookies of our own. The checklist on the home page works only in your browser and is not saved or sent anywhere.

Hosting information

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. As with any website host, Cloudflare processes basic technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, and the date and time. It does this to deliver the site and keep it secure. We do not use this information to identify you. Cloudflare explains how it handles data in its own privacy policy.

If you email us

If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and, where needed, to fix an error you reported. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: it is reasonable for us to answer people who write to us. We keep emails for up to 12 months after the conversation ends and then delete them. We do not share them, except with our email provider, which stores them for us.

Links to retailers (affiliate links)

Some links on this site go to retailers, and some may be affiliate links. When you click one, you leave this site. The retailer, and the affiliate network that connects us, may use cookies or similar technology to record that you came from us, so that we can be paid a commission if you buy. Those cookies are set by them, not by us, and their privacy and cookie policies apply from that point.

We receive reports that a sale happened and what commission it earned. We do not receive your name, address, contact details or payment details. You can read more on our affiliate disclosure page.

Transfers outside the UK

Cloudflare and some retailers or networks may process data in other countries. They are responsible for the safeguards that apply. See their policies for details.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, and object to our use of it. If you have emailed us, write to the address above and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site works, for example by adding analytics or a newsletter, we will update this page and the date at the top before we do.
